Study Name
Hereditary Prostate Cancer Study
Description
The James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions is seeking volunteers for a genetic study on hereditary prostate cancer. It is important that all living family members participate. A sample of blood will be collected not only from affected members, but also from parents (if living), siblings (both unaffected males and females), aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Eligible candidates must be from families with:
- 3 or more first-degree relatives diagnosed with prostate cancer (ex: father and two sons; or father, paternal uncle, and son; or maternal uncle and 2 brothers; or 3 brothers) OR
- 3 successive generations diagnosed with prostate cancer (ex: paternal grandfather, father, and son; or maternal grandfather, maternal uncle, and son) OR
- 2 first-degree relatives diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 55 years or less (ex: father and son; or 2 paternal uncles; or 2 maternal uncles; or 2 brothers)
Of particular interest are families with 2 generations diagnosed with prostate cancer with at least 4 affected members and a mean age of diagnosis of 65 years or less.
