Interested
in learning the latest updates from the National Cancer Institute (NCI)?
Take a look at the web site http://www.cancer.gov.
Patients, and their loved ones, advocates, health professionals,
researchers, and anyone else interested in cancer will find a wide range of
current and accurate cancer information topics.
For easy navigation this web site is broken down into content categories
that
include:
1. cancer information (treatment, detection & prevention, genetics, coping, resources)
2. clinical trials (access to NCI’s PDQ database for the latest treatment information)
3. statistics (types and meanings, sources, specifics for cancer types)
4. research programs (types of research, sponsors, NCI priorities, partners)
5. research funding (grants, applications, policies, resources, scientific programs, etc)
Cancer.gov serves as an “umbrella” site of the National Cancer Institute and includes links to many other web sites within and outside NCI. It also maintains a dictionary of medical terms, announces new research studies, provides a News Center, and enables individuals to access publications.
To access information on cancer genetics and the Cancer Genetics Network (CGN) select the “Cancer Information” category and then the option for “Prevention, Genetics, Causes”. At your fingertips will be information about general and specific cancer genetics, policy issues, cancer genetics professionals in your area, and genetics resources such as the Cancer Genetics Network. Check out NCI’s Fact Sheet about joining CGN or link to the CGN national web site http://epi.grants.gov/CGN to learn more about our national network of 8 centers and new research opportunities.
