Line Cancer Genetics Resources at Howard University Cancer Center

Howard University Cancer Center provides the following genetic counseling services:
  • genetic cancer risk assessment
  • education on preventive actions
  • education about potential risk to other family members
  • education about genetic tests for genes associated with the development of breast and ovarian cancer
  • counseling explaining the significance of test results
  • psychological counseling for an inherited cancer

Patients with any of the following criteria should be referred for genetic counseling:

  • cancer with a well-recognized genetic basis
  • 2 or more cases of the same cancer among first-degree relatives
  • multiple types of cancer within the family
  • molecular tests showing evidence of an inherited variant strongly associated with a particular cancer
