Kathy J. Helzlsouer, MD, MHS

Dr. Helzlsouer is Co-Principal Investigator of the Mid-Atlantic Cancer Genetics Network. She directs Prevention Services as well as the Breast and Ovarian Surveillance Service, both of the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center. She also serves on the editorial board of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, the official journal of the American Association for Cancer Research and its Molecular Epidemiology Group. Her interests lie in cancer epidemiology, cancer prevention, and health risk assessment. She has ongoing research projects on serologic precursors of cancer, including nutrient and hormonal factors and susceptibility factors such as DNA repair capability.

      Dr. Helzlsouer is a Professor in the Clinical Epidemiology Program of the Department of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. She also holds a joint appointment in the Oncology Center of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Helzl-souer received her medical education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and her Master of Health Science degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
