Dr. Griffin is a co-principal investiga.tor of the Mid-Atlantic Cancer Genetics Network and Associate Professor in the department of Pathology at The Johns Hopkins Uni.versity School of Medicine. She holds joint appointments in the departments of Oncology and Medicine. Dr. Griffin’s research interests lie in chromosome abnormalities of solid tumors, especially adenocarcinoma of the pancreas, molecular cytogenetics, and developing use algorithms for molecular diagnostic tests in oncology.
Dr. Griffin is also the director of the Johns Hopkins Familial Cancer Service and provides clinical attending services in the Colon Cancer Risk Assessment Service. Dr. Griffin directs the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center Pathology Cytogenetic and Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory. This lab is involved in determining the karyotype of selected human tumors and was the first to develop a test for the APC I1307K mutation, known to be associated with colon cancer in the Ashkenazi Jewish population. Staff are particularly interested in correlating physical clinical findings with laboratory findings to identify the biologic and prognostic significance of observed chromosome abnormalities.
