Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) is a comprehensive database of human genes and genetic disorders. OMIM was created by Dr. Victor A. McKusick and colleagues at the Johns Hopkins University and other institutions. Developed for the Internet by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, the searchable database consists of text, pictures, and references. It’s Gene Map contains the cytogenetic map location of disease genes organized by chromosome. The Morbid Map contains the cytogenetic map location of disease genes organized by disease. The database is also available for download. Intended mainly for professionals, OMIM is a great resource.
